My son, my first born, is turning 13 years old on Friday. I am so fortunate to be his mom. I never knew too much about boys since I came from an all girl family, but as soon as I found out I was having a baby boy; he had my heart.
The picture above is when he was getting all cleaned up and I was in post-op from my C-Section. We had a pretty rough road to both of us coming out healthy but we made it together. This picture of him as a baby was taken and everyone in the hospital room kept going “he has dimples!” I was like “Give me my baby!” I hadn’t had a chance to look at him closely, count all his fingers and toes, just look into his little eyes and tell him how much I love him.
My little Fiyero has always been a good boy. He has always been so smart, kinda and loving. When I was pregnant with him, I craved glazed Timbits from Tim Hortons yet Illinois did not have a Tim Hortons. Whenever I came home to visit in Michigan, my family went hunting all over for glazed tim bits. The funny thing is until I was pregnant I never ate donuts. If I did, it was maybe once a year if that. I tested my theory he was the one who wanted them when he was able to eat solid foods. He gobbled up that glazed Tim bit confirming my theory that he was the one who craved them. To this day, he loves donuts. On Friday, he’s even going to have a donut birthday cake per his request.
Fiyero loves his cats. We got our first cat, Tony the Tiger, when he was about 3 years old. He loved Tony so much. That was his best friend. Unfortunately, Tony the Tiger passed away before he reached his 2nd birthday due to feline leukemia which we had no idea he had. My son was brokenhearted. When he was 4 years old, he asked for a black cat so he can name it Hiro (his favorite engine from Thomas and Friends). We went to the shelter and checked out all the black cats. We found this beautiful, fluffy three-legged kitty and instantly we knew we had to have her. To understand the name Hiro better, Hiro is an engine who had broken parts and gets fixed. Hiro the engine is kind and loving. The same goes for our cat Hiro. Fiyero loves Hiro so much. He is her person. When she went through a depression after another one of our cats died, Tony James (named after the first Tony), Hiro spent an entire year up in Fiyero’s bedroom. She just wanted to be with him.
Fiyero is an excellent big brother. He loves his baby sister fiercely. Little Glinda just thinks her big brother is the best person in the world. He is so good with her. They are almost 4 years apart but they have a very tight bond.
I’m so lucky God gave me the privilege of being his mom. He has taught me so much. I know I sound bias because he is my child, but he is just so good. Goodness just fills his heart and soul. I am so thankful for that.

Happy birthday to my first born! You are special and loved beyond measure. I cannot wait to see what wonderful things are in store for you in the future.
Love you, Mommy
