Welcome to the Jen Defies Gravity Blog!
HI, my name is Jen. How are you today? I’d like to give you a few bits of information about me so we can get to know each other better.
Fast Facts:
- I’m an only child. It’s a blessing and a curse. As a child, I loved it. I loved my freedom, no need to share my space, I had lots of imaginary playtime as well as quiet. However, getting roommates in college was a hard adjustment.
- All of our cats are named after Thomas the Train engines. We have Hiro, Clarabel, Annie and Henry
- I’m a Midwestern girl through and through. As a girl from Southeast Michigan, I always give directions stating “its about 15 minutes away”, any illness can be cured with Vernor’s, I love Detroit Style Pizza but as someone who lived in the Chicago area for years, I do love a good deep dish pizza.
- I find painting a house calming. My husband thinks I’m crazy finding this soothing.
- My number one love is sewing, designing and being creative. After college, how I ended up almost 14 years in the world of logistics and transportation without a clue what I was doing is a mystery to me. I loved working in logistics. I always tell people that if you have no idea what job to do, find something in logistics. There are lots of ways to get into supply chain. Freight always has to be moved or stored in a warehouse. There is always a job in supply chain (plus I have found people in supply chain are the most laidback group of people who know how to laugh at situations and themselves.) You will never experience the same day twice.
- I have many hyper-fixations. For instance, The Gilded Age (the time period and the show on Max), The Victorian Age, The Lizzie Borden Case, The Titanic disaster, a love of history, and so much more.
- I may be seen as someone who is an extrovert but secretly I’m an introvert.
This blog for me is a place for people to come and feel welcome. Understood. Gain courage. Learn something. What is life if you are not learning? There will be lots of book recommendations, song recommendations and memories of why these songs are so important to me and my life, what things shaped me into the person I am today and why. I’m not here to sugar coat it at all. Life is hard sometimes. You just have to believe in yourself and remember who you are. My beloved best friend, Missy, who has been my best friend since I was four years old always reminds me when things get hard, to “Jenni, remember who you are.” She is a wise soul and I love her with all my heart. And yes, it’s 41 years she has been my best friend ever since we sat next to each other at Vacation Bible School. She is one of the true loves of my life. In this blog, you will get to know the people I love, my pets, my favorite recipes, things I find cheerful, fashion and fashion history, my ever-changing hyper fixations, etc. I want to hear from you as well.
Right now, I’ve come to the point I just want my life to have purpose. The purpose I feel in my heart and soul is to share my story and lessons learned to help you as you try to navigate your own life.
It’s my hope you find what makes you happy and joyful. That we can work together to create a community who celebrates each other’s success, happiness, joyfulness, love, and make a difference in the world.
